The summer period of video game conferences is about to end, but there is one last big event to take place, Gamescom. as the show begins next week, its presenter wanted to temper expectations for the 2023 edition.
The biggest video game show in the world
This year again, it is Geoff Keighley who will launch Gamescom with the Opening Night Live conference as an opening. It’s usually a good time to preview end-of-the-year games and those to come, but this year will apparently be wiser.
Indeed, it is likely that the World Premiere of Gamescom 2023 are less impressive than in the past. If we are to believe the words of presenter Geoff Keighley, the conference on Tuesday, August 22 will be quite different from previous ones.
It’s going to be an exciting show with new previews of many announced games like Alan Wake 2 and Black Myth Wukong. This year, the ONL is less about announcing new projects and more about giving fans information on some of the biggest games coming out next year.
In other words, don’t expect huge announcements in spades this year, but rather updates on previously announced titles.
According to the presenter, the Opening Night Live presents unique challenges compared to its other annual events, The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest, not only because of its location in Europe, but also because of the links with the partners who exhibit at Gamescom itself. He then evokes logistical challenges, but also the synergy to be found between what is presented during the conference and what is available at the show. Last year, the Opening Night Live conference presented a good thirty games for a show of almost two hours.
Remember that the Opening Night Live conference will take place this Tuesday, August 22 at 8:00 p.m. Paris time. This will be followed by the opening of the German show from Thursday August 24th to Sunday August 27th. An Xboxygen team will obviously be on hand, both to test some of the biggest games coming in 2024, but also to cover the show.
If you’ve never had the opportunity to go there, we advise you to attend Gamescom at least once. It is the largest video game show in the world in terms of attendance. The halls are huge and the organization of quality. This year, Xbox will be holding its biggest stand there ever with 150 game terminals accessible to the public.
