Academician Constantin Bălăceanu Stolnici died on Sunday at the age of 100, according to an announcement by the Bucharest Ecological University.
“On August 20, he left us with the same serenity with which he lived his whole life for over a century, with faith in God and trust in science, Prof. Dr. Constantin Bălăceanu Stolnici, honorary member of the Romanian Academy and president of honor of the Senate of the Ecological University of Bucharest (UEB).
Descendant of an old noble family, he attended the medical faculty in the capital, becoming a neurologist and doctor of medical sciences. After 1989, he supported the development of private education in Romania, being among the founders of UEB, where he taught anthropology and neurology courses.
Full of wisdom, incurable optimist, generous and chosen spirit, academician Constantin Bălăceanu Stolnici shared trust, moral support and the joy of living with all of us”, the UEB representatives wrote on Facebook.
Constantin Bălăceanu-Stolnici, born on July 6, 1923, in Bucharest, was a Romanian scientist, neurologist and professor of neuropsychology and anatomy of the nervous system, honorary member of the Romanian Academy since 1992.
After the scandal related to the collaboration with the Securitate, Constantin Bălăceanu-Stolnici withdrew from the Romanian Academy.
He was decorated with the “Star of Romania” Order in the rank of Knight.
