The mayor of the capital, Nicuşor Dan, announced on Tuesday that the contract with Astra regarding the delivery of the 100 trams has been reached and that tram no. 50 has arrived.
He said that by the end of the year the 100 electric buses will be delivered and by next spring the 100 trolleybuses.
Nicusor Dan claimed that there was a 25% increase compared to the previous year in the use of public transport.
“We are happy to announce that we are halfway through the contract for the delivery of the 100 trams, tram no. 50 has arrived, in fact tram no. 51. It is part of the large investments we are making in public transport. As you know, by the end of the year the 100 electric buses will arrive and by next spring the 100 trolleybuses, part of them are financed from European funds, part of them from the Environmental Fund with a small contribution from the City Hall” , said the capital’s mayor, quoted by News.ro.
Nicusor Dan showed that the feasibility study for another 250 trams was voted in the General Council.
“After we have these 250, we will have the complete fleet of new trams with much lower maintenance costs”, he added.
Nicusor Dan declared that the final phase of the evaluation for the 30 km of tram line modernization has been reached.
“Somewhere in three weeks from now we will sign the contracts for design and execution. There are efforts we are making to improve public transport and I am very happy that the people of Bucharest understand this and start using public transport, we have a 25% increase compared to the previous year in the use of public transport. There are serious companies in Romania and when they are paid on time, they deliver on time, this is the case of the contract with Astra, this is the case of the works on the Doamna Ghica Bridge, we announced a year and a half ago a calendar that is respected”, said the mayor general .
