700 professional players from all over the world are arriving in Iași these days, for the World Esports Championship. Romania is represented in the competition by valuable players, with important results in international competitions.
Players from all over the world started arriving in Iași to compete in the finals of the World Esports Championship, which this year are taking place in the capital of Moldova, between August 24 and September 3.
The first players landed in Iasi on Saturday and Sunday, coming from Germany, Argentina, the United States and Sweden. The rest of the participants, a total of 700 players from 120 countries from all continents, are due to arrive in Iași in these days. The teams and players that will represent Romania will arrive in Iasi during these days and will enter the training camp.
Starting August 26, players will compete in the Championship competitions for the title of world champions and total prizes of 500 thousand dollars: three team competitions for PC games, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Female and Dota 2, two competitions for console games, eFootball and Tekken, and two competitions for mobile games, PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends.
As a reference, the Esports World Championship is part of Digital Throne, a ten-day festival, during which a multitude of related activities and events, such as Comic Con, talks about the industry will take place in the area of the Palace of Culture in Iași of esports, educational workshops and showmatches with special guests. Digital Throne’s closing party takes place on September 1-3 with a series of concerts featuring some of the most acclaimed international and local artists: Lost Frenquencies, Tom Odell, JP Cooper, Delia, BUG Mafia, Subcarpathians and many more.
The Esports World Championship from Iasi starts on August 24
Romania is represented in the World Championship by valuable players, who achieved important results in international competitions.
The team that will represent Romania at the Dota 2 competition is led by Omar “w33” Aliwi, a player born and raised in Romania, finalist of the biggest esports competition in the world, The International. The Romanian Dota 2 team, led by Omar Aliwi, is composed of Angel “Flash” Niamtu, Daniel “kaan” Heisu, Radu Ionuț “bnc” Musat and Mihai “Cancel” Antonio.
The best CS:GO player in the world at the moment, the Romanian Ana Dumbravă, will be the captain of the Romanian CS:GO women’s team, composed of Lavinia “Icy” Banica, Melissa “meli” Aylin, Ramona “ratons” Dodu and Emilia “Emmy” Gratie.
Romania’s representative in the eFootball competition is Adrian Urmă, professional player and former captain of the AS Roma team, semi-finalist of the UEFA Euro 2020 edition dedicated to eFootball.
Also, the team formed by the valuable Romanian players of Nexus Gaming, Blytz, Xellow, Btn, Launx and Sound, will fight for the CS:GO world title.
Iconic Crew team members will represent Romania in the Mobile Legends competition. Consisting of Bloodz, Prinsx, Kcorei, Bucatti and Jinn, the team won the national qualifiers, proving that they are the strongest squad dedicated to this game, after many local tournaments won.
In the PUBG Mobile competition, Romania will be represented by the players of the Nexus Gaming team, consisting of Dorin, Octavian, Exo and Kapahala, which a few months ago became European vice-champion in the PUBG Mobile Pro League.
Moreover, Romania’s representative in the Tekken competition will be Andrei Lazăr, 3-time winner of the Viens On Doz Tekken Weekly European tournament.
