A new coach has been sacked in the Superliga after only six stages. The club has reached an agreement with the technician to terminate the contract, as a result of the poor results from this start of the season, and has already found a replacement. He is the third technician dismissed since the beginning of the championship.
Dismissal of a coach in the Superliga
The coach was appointed on June 9 and left the team after only six stages, with a record of one win, three draws and two defeats, occupying 12th place in the Superliga. Following these poor results, the club management decided to change the technician.
The defeat suffered by Universitatea in the Cluj derby, 3-4 against rival CFR Cluj, led to the dismissal of Toni Petrea, the Universitatea club announced on Thursday on its Facebook page. He coached the Chindia Tîrgoviște team last season, which was relegated to the second tier.
“FC Universitatea Cluj has reached an agreement to end collaboration with coach Anton Petrea. Our club would like to thank Anton Petrea and his staff, consisting of Cristian Țermure (second coach), Vasile Gheorghe (physical trainer) and Dumitru Hotoboc (goalkeeping coach) for the work done at “U”. We wish them the best of luck in their careers!”the Transylvanians noted.
Toni Petrea was second coach at FCSB, Litex Loveci, Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Al Wahda (Saudi Arabia), Al Wasl (Saudi Arabia) or Concordia Chiajna.
He started his career as head coach in the 2020-2021 season at FCSB. He finished the regular season of League 1 in first place, but at the end of the play-off his team finished in second place. The Red-Blues had the highest number of goals scored that season (72), 15 more than the champion CFR Cluj. With him on the bench, FCSB won the Romanian Cup on July 22, 2020.
Who is the new coach of Cluj University
Transylvanian officials have also found a replacement for Toni Petrea. The one who will take his place on the bench is Ioan Ovidiu Sabău (55 years old), who will be officially presented on Friday. He left Cluj University at the beginning of the summer, after the Romanian Cup final, lost by the “Red Caps” to Sepsi.
The objective will be to occupy the 8-10 places, not the play-off. It is therefore desired that the future technician is not burdened with a high dose of pressure, in the context in which the current situation of the team is not rosy at all.
The return of Ioan Ovidiu Sabău has not been possible until now, as the former member of the Golden Generation did not reach a consensus with the leaders of the formation, not wanting, among other things, to take over the team before the derby with CFR Cluj.
