The Apuseni Natural Park is one of the 22 national and natural parks managed by the National Forestry Authority – Romsilva. Recently, surveillance cameras caught an animal here that is very rarely seen.
Unique images from the Apuseni Natural Park
The forests of the Apuseni Natural Park provide the fauna with all the conditions for food and shelter necessary for a healthy habitat, stated Romsilva representatives. The heat of the last period is also felt by wild animals. A little while ago, the cameras captured a lone wolf cooling off in a mountain river.
“On a hot day, a bath in a mountain river is welcome. The unique images of a wolf cooling off in a forest of the Apuseni Natural Park were taken with the help of a fauna monitoring camera installed by our colleague Raul Ghiran”, stated Romsilva representatives.
According to the same source, wolves live in packs, which is why captured images are very rare. Wolves are also not seen very often in the wild. Packs consist of the ruling pair, i.e. the alpha male and female, as well as their cubs up to 3 years old. There are cases where the pack is larger, but we can tell the hierarchy of the wolves in the pack by the body language of the animals.

Rare wild felines, filmed in a forest in the Apuseni Natural Park
A wildlife surveillance camera located in a forest in the Apuseni Mountains captured spectacular images of a lynx and a wild cat, animals that can be seen in Romania, but very rarely.
The wild cat is a small feline. It feeds on small mammals and birds. It is a solitary, nocturnal animal and prefers large, quiet forests with old trees and thick underbrush.
“Through the park we can see it accidentally, especially in untraveled areas. The wild cat’s most developed senses are hearing and smell. As a nocturnal and twilight animal, it has eyes well adapted to night vision, but far from the performance of the lynx. Hunting tactics are similar to those of the domestic cat. She can swim if she has to, but generally avoids water. It never follows the prey that escapes”, said those from the Apuseni Natural Park (PNA).
