Autumn fruits that make you fat
The fall season is harvest time and brings an abundance of fresh foods that have been growing all summer and are now ripe and ready to be enjoyed. Fall fruits and vegetables are not only delicious, but also full of nutrients your body needs to keep your immune system strong before the temperatures drop.
However, despite the health benefits, some of them can contribute to weight gain, especially in the abdomen area. We focus, in the lines below, on the fruits that are going to flood the market stalls soon.
Nutritionist Mihaela Bilic sounds the alarm
According to the specialist, plums and grapes are two of the autumn fruits that have a very high sugar content, which can contribute to weight gain. However, Mihaela Bilic points out that these fruits are generally healthy and can be considered a natural dessert.
100 grams of plums contain about 70 calories, but also about 10 grams of sugar. And its amount increases in very ripe plums, which become sweeter. 100 grams of grapes contain about 20 grams of sugar per 100 grams of fruit.
“Fruit sugar, i.e. fructose, turns into alcohol through fermentation. And this happens either in the barrel or in our liver… this for those who don’t know that fruits eaten in excess are fattening and make belly fat (..)
Depending on the variety, plums have a caloric intake of 45-70 cal and a sugar intake of approx. 10g/100g. It should be remembered that they are climacteric fruits, which ripen even after they have been picked… and the riper they are, the sweeter they are.
Grapes are champions in terms of sweetness, they have 15-20g of sugar and 80-90 cal/100g. It is worth praising them for the content of potassium, magnesium and calcium.
Plums and grapes also have a detoxifying and alkalizing effect. They are the healthiest and most balanced dessert offered by nature. But like any dessert, it should be eaten in moderation”, explained the nutritionist.
Therefore, Mihaela Bilic recommends consuming these fruits in moderate quantities. And for those who want to control weight or reduce abdominal fat, the specialist recommends opting for other fruits with a lower sugar content.
