Available since August 22, Immortals of Aveum seems not to have met with commercial success, in addition to its mixed reception by the press. Indeed, we learned today that Ascendant Studios was forced to lay off a large part of its employees.

It was through Twitter that Bret Robbins, the CEO of the studio, communicated the bad news. He explains that he had to let go of 45% of his workforce (which would represent around 40 people), without however confirming that this decision was taken due to sales below forecasts.
While the independent studio had taken great joy in producing a game with AAA ambition thanks to the support of EA Originals, it now seems difficult to imagine that the next title could be more ambitious.
According to data available on Steam DB, the record for simultaneous players only stands at 751 on the Valve platform, which would reflect a probable commercial failure.
Today we are heartbroken as we part ways with friends and colleagues from Ascendant Studios – approximately 45% of our team. This is a painfully difficult, but necessary, decision that was not taken lightly; nonetheless, we need to make this adjustment now that Immortals of Aveum has shipped. We are supporting those affected in every way possible, including full redundancy packages and job placement assistance, as well as support services for those who remain. If your studio is looking for proven UE5 artists and engineers, please contact us so we can introduce you to some incredibly talented game developers.
I am very proud of what our independent development team has accomplished with Immortals of Aveum. Together we created a new AAA studio, with new technology, at a time in our industry where this is extremely rare. We poured our passion into Immortals, while wearing our hearts on our sleeves. The studio will continue to work in this way supporting the development of this game and our Immortals IP, moving forward with future updates and offerings.
To my team reading this message, especially those who are leaving us, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your invaluable contribution to the culture of Ascendant and for the tremendous impact you have had in bringing Immortais of Aveum to life . We wish you much success in the rest of your career. Stay in touch with us.
Let’s hope that the employees concerned manage to quickly reintegrate into other studios. As for the remaining members of Ascendant Studios, we can only wish them to cope with the news as best they can and succeed in producing a game that will appeal much more to the public.
Immortals of Aveum is available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. If you want to get an idea of the game, you can consult our test.
