A new episode took place in the war between CSA Steaua and FCSB. At the Bucharest Court of Appeal, the process related to records has resumed. Gigi Becali’s lawyers were nervous after seeing what the judges decided. Here’s what happened at the trial.
What happened at the Court of Appeal
FCSB claims that it is the continuation of the historical team of the club founded in 1947, while the officials of CSA Steaua say that the current Superliga team no longer has any connection with the group from Ghencea. Under these conditions, the trial was reached.
The High Court of Cassation and Justice decided, in March 2023, to send the file for retrial to the Court of Appeal. Thus, the first term of the trial for the records between FCSB and CSA Steaua took place, which was judged in a single session, on September 18. The final decision will be made on October 2.

FCSB received a big blow as the judges asked to judge the record situation from 2003 – 2017.
“It’s over, the trial related to records has been judged. The Bucharest Court of Appeal remained in judgment on the appeal submitted by the FCSB. Because CSA did not file an appeal.
He adjourned sentencing to October 2. Since the Court said that only the period from 2003 to the present is being judged, and not the period from 1947, from the establishment to the present. We rejected the panel of judges. It will be judged separately”said FCSB’s lawyer, Adrian Căvescu, for Playsport.
What else did Gigi Becali’s lawyers request?
FCSB’s lawyers asked the judges to get in touch with FRF and LPF, so that the latter could prove to them with evidence that FCSB would have taken over Stela’s place in League 1. In addition, the representatives of the red-blues also used as an argument the fact that Becali’s band benefited from the UEFA quotient from the position of Stella’s successor.

Present at the trial, Florin Talpan, CSA Steaua jurist, had several interventions during the trial. He admitted that FCSB holds the track record from 2003 to 2017, but again asked for compensation for the use of the “Steaua” brand.
History of the process between CSA Steaua and FCSB
On July 5, 2019, CSA Steaua won, at the Bucharest Court, the record of the Steaua football team from its foundation, 1947, until 2003.
The FCSB appealed the decision, and on June 28, 2021, the Bucharest Court of Appeal partially preserved the first decision, only that it took five years from the records of those from the CSA, the interval 1998-2003. In 1998, AFC Steaua separated from Armata at UEFA’s request.

FCSB appealed to the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ÎCCJ) because it remained with the record since 2003, when Gigi Becali took over the football team. His trial began on March 2.
In December 2014, the High Court of Cassation and Justice canceled the “Steaua” trademark belonging to Gigi Becali. Then, in December 2016, the Court of Appeal forbade Becali to use, for his club, the name “Steaua”, symbols permanently lost by the team of the landowner from Pipera.
On March 28, 2023, the ÎCCJ decided to re-judge the trial for the records between FCSB and CSA Steaua.
