While the activity surrounding the acquisition of Activision Blizzard has continued to be talked about for months, it has been quite silent for several weeks. If the CMA’s final decision is expected before October 18, it may well deliver a first verdict very soon.
A preliminary decision from the CMA is expected before the end of the month
A source from The Verge states that a preliminary decision should be made before the end of the month.
If the spotlight is on the CMA, it is because the British regulatory authority represents the last major obstacle for Microsoft. Remember that it blocked the buyout process last April because of concerns about the cloud.
Following this episode, Microsoft finally restructured its acquisition project by selling cloud broadcasting rights to Ubisoft, which prompted this new investigation by the CMA.
The following days should therefore be interesting to follow. What is certain is that we are now in the home stretch, the next month could see the takeover finally closed.
