Argentine baritone Alejandro Meerapfel died on stage on Friday during a concert at the Ambronay Baroque Music Festival in France, local media reported on Sunday.
The Argentinian artist suffered a heart attack and could not be saved. The show was interrupted and the audience was evacuated, according to news.ro.
“A 54-year-old man, a member of the band on stage, died as a result of an illness during the show”, announced on Saturday, the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service from Ain.
Alejandro Meerapfel has performed several times in the Abbatiale of Ambronay. “We are shocked by his sudden death”, stated in a press release the management of the Ambronay Cultural Center.
The group Cappella Mediterranea and the Namur Chamber Choir were on the stage of the Ambronay abbey under the direction of the Argentine conductor Leonardo García Alarcón when the artist collapsed. The show was broadcast by France Télévisions on Culturebox.
