The Minister of Finance, Marcel Boloş, said on Sunday, about the package of fiscal measures, that it was not discussed in the public space just to be busy, but it is necessary because we have the problem with the deficit and European funds. “We are trying to fight for this, not to compromise the development and modernization of Romania in the long term. In the middle, there are 75 billion euros that can be suspended at any moment if we have this problem of the budget deficit”, said the minister.
“The draft law was discussed in a first reading, in the Government, precisely with the idea that all the members of the Government should take note and then approve the draft, according to the legal procedures. Of course, the draft law, until the moment it is approved by the Government, can be added and these changes can be made, but all this must be done in compliance with the legal procedures and compliance with all the observations and opinions of the line ministries”, said the minister at Antena 3, according to News.ro.
Boloş stated that “the decisions were taken in the governing coalition, because in the middle it is about a political decision and about a political cost that the Government must assume”.
“We, at the Ministry of Finance, have only done to integrate these measures from a technical point of view, respectively to ensure their applicability”, said Boloş.
Asked how he comments on Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu’s statement from Friday, according to which he does not agree with some of the officially presented measures, Marcel Boloş said: “You have the last word and (..) when it will be approved by the Government in the form in which it will be sent to the Parliament for the assumption of governmental responsibility, until that moment the draft law, according to the procedures we have, these changes can be made to it. Now it also depends on what the content of these changes is and what exactly is debatable in the measures that are quite complex”, he pointed out.
“We did not discuss this draft law and it was not discussed in the public space just to be on the job, it is necessary because we have this problem with the budget deficit and with European funds and the risk of suspension of European funds. We are trying to fight for this, not to compromise the development and modernization of Romania in the long term. in the middle there are 75 billion euros that can be suspended at any moment if we have this problem of the budget deficit”, emphasized Marcel Boloş.
Regarding the measures that cannot be waived under any circumstances, the Minister of Finance showed that there are three levels, one refers to the reduction of public expenses, the second to combat tax evasion and only the third is the one regarding the fiscal-budgetary measures .
“We have not left everything on the shoulders of the taxpayers, but we also cannot tolerate fiscal optimization areas or endlessly tolerate the budget imbalances that manifest themselves in large public systems. Look at the health fund, where 1.2 million insured do not pay the health insurance contribution. Where in this world does an insured or an employee not pay pension or health insurance. These are elementary, common-sense things and we still have this problem with the big public systems”, Boloş also declared.
