The family of Adam Johnson, the ice hockey player who died after being hit in the neck by another player’s skate blade, has found the engagement ring he bought to propose to his girlfriend, Ryan Wolfe.
Family friends said they knew he wanted to propose to Ryan, 24, writes the Independent. Adam had even shown the ring to his grandmother and told her about his plans.
Adam and Ryan had been in a relationship for over a year.
At the young man’s funeral, she sent an emotional message, in which she called him “her everything”.
“You’ve been so amazingly kind to me since the day we met. And I couldn’t be more grateful for that. I’ve always thought that maybe if I was lucky, after a lifetime together, I could to be like you. You are such a special person, you have the best sense of humor, the biggest heart, the best soul. You are incredibly loyal, dedicated and intelligent. Whether it was in school or life in overall, you seem to have it all figured out, which gave me so much peace and comfort and made me feel like we could do anything and be fine. Be happy.”
The young woman said that Adam had told her about his dream of running a farm or opening a cafe. “I just hope that in heaven they let you have your farm. You were everything to me. You were my home, my best friend, my rock, my refuge and the love of my life. I will never stop thinking about you, to miss you and love you until we can be together again. I love you.”
Adam Johnson, 29, was playing for England’s Nottingham Panthers against Sheffield Steelers when he was hit in the neck by the blade of another player’s skate. The police in Great Britain announced on Tuesday the arrest of a man, accused of the manslaughter of the sportsman.
