A polar cyclone makes its presence felt in Romania. The weather changed radically in several areas of the country, temperatures dropped significantly, rains, blizzards and strong storms. Specialists from the National Meteorological Administration have sent a new message of immediate severe weather.
Polar cyclone in Romania
Autumn seems to have lasted only a few days – in thermometers. This mid-November weekend started with capricious weather, temperatures much lower than the values displayed in the previous period, rain, gales and even snow in some regions of the country. All are the effects of a polar cyclone that penetrated the territory of Romania.
Specialists from the National Meteorological Administration have sent a new message of immediate severe weather. On Saturday morning, ANM issued a code orange warning, which came into effect at 08:30 in the morning and will be valid until 14:00.
During this interval, strong wind intensifications are announced that will exceed 90…100 km/h at gusts, it will be blizzard and visibility will decrease. The mountain areas above 1,800 meters in Caraş-Severin and Hunedoara counties are targeted.

Code orange, in several areas of the country
Also from Saturday morning until Sunday at 10:00 a.m. a code orange for precipitation, snow and increased wind is in effect.
The meteorologists stated that “in the eastern half of the territory and in the mountains there will be quantitatively significant precipitation, locally of 25…35 l/sq m and isolated over 50 l/sq m.” These will be in the form of snow in the mountains and predominantly snow in most of Moldova and in the south-east of Transylvania where a layer of snow will be deposited, locally consistent. In Dobrogea and Muntenia there will be rain and passing, on the night of Saturday to Sunday (November 18/19), sleet and snow in limited areas”.
“The wind will show intensification in the southwest, east and southeast of the territory with speeds of 55…65 km/h. In the Subcarpathians of Moldavia and Curbură, as well as in the mountains, there will be a temporary blizzard, and the gusts will exceed 60…80 km/h. Throughout Sunday, the wind will continue to intensify in the southeast of the country and in the mountains.”
“In the south of Moldova, the east of Muntenia and in Dobrogea there will be sustained intensification of the wind with gusts generally of 85…90 km/h, and in the western basin of the Black Sea, of over 100 km/h.”

Where will it snow this weekend?
Significant amounts of precipitation, snow and increased winds are predicted this weekend in the east of the country.
