On Friday, November 17, 2023, the Craiova Christmas Market opened its doors to locals and all those interested in visiting it. It is recognized in the country for its good organization, but also for the special atmosphere it promotes. He has been awarded at European level twice in the past years.
The Craiova Christmas market takes place in four different areas of the city: the Old Center, William Shakespeare Square, Doljana area and Mihai Viteazul Square. The theme of the event is one that has not been promoted before, namely Crăiasa Zăpezii.

“The main theme of this year’s Christmas Fair is tailored around the story of Snow White, which we will find in Mihai Viteazul Square, where everything is decorated down to the smallest details in white-turquoise colors,” announced Lia Olguța Vasilescu , the mayor of Craiova.
In the cold season 2023-2024, the fair in Craiova will be a story, with many novelties for locals and visitors. In the city led by Lia Olguța Vasilescu, the biggest wheel in Romania was mounted, 40 meters high, 200 thousand LEDs and a capacity of 140 people.
“We invite everyone (…) to come to Craiova and let’s light together the two million lights at one of the most beautiful Christmas fairs in Europe”, said Lia Olguța Vasilescu, the mayor of Craiova.
How much does a glass of mulled wine cost in Craiova
Romanians who visit the Craiova Christmas Fair have the opportunity to buy here all kinds of products specific to the cold season. More than 70 area merchants sell their wares at the fair here, such as jams, cheeses, scones, doughnuts, waffles, burgers, churros, stroh, gingerbread and mulled wine.
Prices in Craiova are lower than in other places. For example, a glass of mulled wine costs 5 lei less at the Christmas Market in Craiova than in Sibiu. Those who want to warm themselves with this drink must take out a 10 lei bill from their pocket, as opposed to the 15 lei amount in Sibiu.

Also at the Craiova Christmas Market, Romanians can enjoy traditional dishes, in a dream setting, decorated with hand-made ornaments, baubles, crowns and more. The giant Christmas tree, the ice rink, the concert by artists, the creative workshops or the carousel delighted everyone, regardless of their preferences.
