Firefighters and the Police in Strasbourg are investigating the possibility of a meteorite falling, following an intervention in a vehicle in which they discovered a hole with a diameter of 50 centimeters, reports AFP and News.ro.
Firefighters were called on Monday morning to intervene in a “smoke emission from a car” parked in a neighborhood on the outskirts of the city in Alsace.
“Following the investigation of the first team, we suspect that it is about the fall of a stellar body,” writes the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) of Bas-Rhin in the minutes of the intervention, published at noon on Monday.

“Upon our arrival, we found a strong impact, a hole with a diameter of about 50 centimeters, the object went through the hood, the body and the tank of the vehicle,” fire captain Matthieu Colobert told AFP.
After the inspection it was determined that there is no radioactivity.
“We didn’t find any object,” Colobert said. “Either the object is so small that we couldn’t find it, or the impact was so strong that the object disintegrated and turned into dust. However, we have a suspicion about a stone of approximately two centimeters found on the spot”, he declared.
This stone was handed over to the police for complementary analyzes in order to establish its nature.
“It is an object the size of a hazelnut that looks like very lightly burned wood,” a police spokesman told AFP.
He announced that the respective object is to be sent to Paris, to a forensic police service.
“Did an object fall from space? That is the question”, said the policeman.
“Even a falling ball thrown at high speed can do damage. But it still remains to be proven if it is an object that comes from space,” he added.
