The latest report on the car market in Romania draws attention to a fascinating victory for the manufacturer from Mioveni. The Dacia Sandero is once again the top seller in Europe, while Tesla sales seem to have collapsed.
According to data aggregated by Autonews Europe, the competition for the top spot in the European car rankings has been reflected in a change of leaders over the past month. For the third time in the last 10 months, the Dacia Sandero is the holder of the first position, while the Tesla Model Y seems to have lost its ability to generate interest among electric car enthusiasts.

Dacia Sandero is making waves in Europe
In October of this year, at the European level, Dacia Sandero enjoyed a 37.7% increase compared to the same period last year, thus reaching 21,100 copies sold on the old continent. The victory is all the more impressive as, in the last 2-3 months, the pace of growth had slowed down significantly. It is important to remember that this model is produced equally in the Dacia factories in Mioveni and in Morocco.
The Tesla Model 3 suffered a stunning sales collapse, which was reflected in less than 10,000 units sold in October 2023 in Europe. The resulting value places the American manufacturer in 24th place in the ranking. As an important footnote though, Tesla doesn’t necessarily have problems, and certainly not serious ones. What is seen in the market is a consequence of the fact that the giant led by Elon Musk makes deliveries in waves, the pace is very different from one month to another.
What cars are sold in Europe, besides Dacia
After Dacia Sandero which was in first place in Europe, the second position in the ranking was occupied by Renault Clio (14,500 units), Toyota Yaris Cross (14,400 units), Peugeot 2008 (14,200) and Citroen C3 with 14,100 units delivered.
If you are curious about the position of the other local player in the market, Ford Puma was in 8th place with 13,400 copies. As for the Dacia Duster, it is down 7.5% from a year ago, partly due to the fact that buyers are waiting for the imminent launch of the new generation. In any case, it sold 9,300 copies.
