Announced in 2021, then playable in early access on PC since then, Against the Storm is a game in its own right. Eremite Games, the development studio, indicates through a trailer its exit from early access, particularly in PC Game Pass.
Un city-builder roguelite ? C’est possible ?
The indie scene is truly the place where developers can express their creativity and demonstrate innovation. This is the case here, with a game that dares to mix two completely opposite genres, roguelite and city-builder.
As a reminder, the first is based on the use of procedurally generated levels whose “death” is permanent, Hades or Dead Cells are examples. However, unlike the roguelike from which it comes, the roguelite remains less punitive by providing a concept of progression and the possibility of completing the game.
The second genre meets very different standards, the city-builder is generally more relaxing with relatively long games, as the construction and management of a city is not a matter of five minutes, Rome was not built in one day.
A new nugget in Game Pass
Against the Storm is therefore a hybrid, which for two years now has received fairly good reviews. It can indeed boast of having 95% positive ratings out of 14,502 reviews on Steam. It is through a trailer that the developers reveal that their game will be released in 1.0 on December 8 on PC, but also in PC Game Pass!
In addition, the trailer is also an opportunity to explain the concept of this game.
The software, with features close to Warcraft III, is based on the construction of buildings, the management of workers and the collection of resources. However, each game will be very different for you! Indeed, the player will not have access to all of the buildings in the game and the level map will not be the same with its own raw materials and dangers.
The objective here will be to create a network of colonies across the wild lands that we will have to reconquer. To achieve this, you will have to defy nature and storms by building and constructing with the help of several peoples represented by different fantastic species with their own specificities.
Among the mechanics covered, the possibility of bartering with traders, sacrificing villagers for the ancient gods, completing missions for the charred queen or even conquering the hearts of your colonists. All this will allow you to obtain various permanent improvements to progress in the game.
The player will therefore have to revive a lost civilization in the six biomes that make up the game. All this coupled with the roguelite genre, Against the Storm offers hundreds of possible situations and significant replayability.
If you’re interested in Against the Storm, it will be available in 1.0 on December 8 on Steam, GoG, the Epic Games Store, the Microsoft Store PC, and PC Game Pass.
