Shortly after the decisive vote in the Chamber of Deputies, through which the new pension law was voted, the Minister of Labor made several important statements for Romanian pensioners regarding what awaits them in 2024.
The new pension law, in the opinion of Simona Bucura – Oprescu, is a form of respect for Romanians who have worked, as well as for those who are currently active in the labor field. The law is to be promulgated by President Klaus Iohannis and to be published in the Official Gazette, so that in 2024 its effects will be felt in the market.

The new Romanian pension law, an extremely important project
“Today together we have an extremely important project in Romania in mind, a project that wants to bring equity to Romanians, to bring pensions that represent a form of respect, both for Romanians who have worked, but also for Romanians who work. The new law has two important elements – contribution and work. These are the two pillars on which the reform we are making is based, so that with equal work we have equal pension incomes”, said Simona Bucura-Oprescu, in Monday’s plenary session of the Chamber.
In the conditions where there were great doubts that all parliamentarians would agree to the adoption of such an important law “quickly”, the minister expressed his hope that the deputies would work as a team.
“I think it is important that each of us, today, regarding this bill, show that we are a team. The same team that represents the interests of Romanians. And we understand how important it is, on the one hand, to adopt this normative act in emergency procedure, as approved by the Permanent Bureau. But, at the same time, in time, to be ready with the reform so that the European Commission eliminates that 9.4 which would have frozen Romanians’ pensions until 2070. We count on your support for this bill and together we want that, in in the years to come, let the Romanians enjoy the provisions that this project brings”, concluded the Minister of Labour.
